  • So my fiancé has a sort of rare biblical name. We are also Old People and were early social media adopters so his Twitter username is just his first name. Let's say his name is Abel and his twitter name is @abel. So a few years ago, this teenager also named Abel starts following him on twitter. He starts sending him messages every few weeks. "Bro, can I have your username?" "Bro please" "please can I have your username" "please" "bro" every few weeks. My fiancé ignores all the messages.
  • After a while, the kid starts sending random photos. Him and his friends at their high school graduation! A photo of his dog in a jaunty Christmas scarf! Eventually my fiancé gives one of the photos a "". And so for the past couple of years, every month or so the kid sends a photo or says "happy new year" or whatever and my fiancé occasionally responds with like, an emoji. I think my fiancé has said, in total, four words to this kid in the last four or five years.
  • (I have no idea when the last time my fiancé even posted to twitter btw. I think he keeps it strictly to get random updates from The Other Abel.) Anyways I'm guessing the kid has a Google alert set for his first name, because a Honeyfund I forgot we made shot to the front page of Google when you search for "Abel". And the kid found it and gave us $10 and included. a note for his "pen pal".
  • DOxnard I love this! Y'all should send him a wedding invite! MoreLikeHellGrant OP The wedding is Saturday (!) so probably no invite, but we are absolutely going to send him a picture of like, a cocktail or something on our honeymoon. "This rounds on you, kid!"

  • u1tr4me0w That is so cute! My grandma found herself in a similar situation, she has an old school German name with a surname she married into, something like "Helga Johnson", and she somehow wound up in a pen pal situation with a little girl from somewhere in Africa whose name is also "Helga Johnson". She would call her "Little Helga" and the girl would send her pictures and write her messages about her accomplishments at school and my oma would take the time to write back these encouraging resp
  • caroline_andthecity I love this. A few years ago I followed 20+ people with my same exact name. My timeline got really confusing But it was really cool seeing all their totally different lives. Like watching long lost siblings, or maybe even myself in different timelines. I tried to get some of them together to record a zoom call just for & giggles. Didn't work out though. A few of them congratulated me on my baby though! It's cool to semi-keep in touch with my long lost non-sisters.
  • amaria_athena My name is Atlanta. About 20 years ago (wow. Makes me sound old) I decided to look up all the other Atlantas on FB. There were 4. 2 friended me back. One I still interact with online. I bet now if I looked I'd find many more. A much younger looking Atlanta replied on a public thread I was looking at. It caught my eye. I was so giddy! Bet I'll be dead though before the name becomes actually popular...
  • JamesandtheGiants I'm also an Old and have an obscure religious name. When I got my Gmail address, (back when you had to have an invitation) I was surprised to find that my first name as a username was already taken. I was also an annoying kid and emailed that username. We went back and forth a bit and bonded over having a weird name.

  • sailboat_magoo I have a fairly common first name and a super uncommon last name. There are 2 other people with my name when I Google myself, which I do every once in a while. A few years ago, one of them was getting married and had a registry website. So I bought her a gift. (Never got a thank you note, which I actually totally get... it's kind of creepy to get a gift from a total stranger who found you through Google.)
  • applesauce22234 When I was getting married there was another girl with the same first and last name getting married around the same time and one of my relatives accidentally got me gifts from the other girl's registry!! It was a very funny convo when I went to return them
  • BusSouthern1462 I have a unique name, and have never seen anyone else have it. Until one day, a person at a store was interviewed and she had my name! I went to the store the next day to introduce myself. She didn't really believe me until I showed her my ID. That was a first for her too.
  • stressmessxpress My husband has an unusual name and went to a large college and kept getting random emails to his student account that made no sense to him. He would also get random notes on his door that he couldn't make sense of either. The mystery was finally revealed when he pledged a fraternity over 15 years ago and thought he didn't get picked on bid day. Turns out there was a girl with his exact name who had received his bid in error and tried desperately to find him. Over their college l
